What does it mean when a physician or specialty center has received quality or cost-efficiency stars? It means they have been evaluated using national guidelines for quality and cost-efficient care.
A physician has met guidelines for quality of care and for the cost-efficient use of resources in delivering health care.
A physician has met quality of care guidelines by following national evidence-based medical standards and practices.Designated physicians:
- Have lower surgery repeat rates
- Follow evidence-based guidelines for care
- Are more likely to be aware of the latest research and clinical trials
- The American College of Cardiology
- The Ambulatory Care Quality Alliance
- The Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality (a division of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services)
